This workship starts with a discussion on the impact of colour choices and layout options for log cabin quilts. The basic log cabin block is also taught. While the project can only be started on the day, guidance is given on the completion of the borders and the quilting.

In this day long workshop partipants start a log cabin quilt.

What to expect on the day

  • Log cabin technique explained and demonstrated
  • Fabrics and colour scheme chosen by participants and quilts started

Afternoon Session

  • Continuing work on quilts

What you need

  • Sewing machine and usual patchwork and quilting equipment – rotary cutter, ruler, board, thread, scissors etc
  • Fabric – how much you will need depends on the size of your project!  In addition you will need fabric for making some samples.  As a basic guide you need 3-4 fabrics going from light to medium in either neutrals or a colour way and 3-4 fabrics going from medium to dark in another colour.  You should also bring along a small amount of red or yellow fabric for the centre of the log cabin.
  • It may also be useful to bring squared paper, pencil and coloured pencils may be useful in exploring the variations of the basic design and for your project design.
