WORKSHOP OUTLINE FOR SATURDAY 27th March

The idea of Drop In Saturdays  is that you can come along for all or part of the day to start on a new project, finish an existing project, get some help on a particular aspect of your patchwork etc.  You can work at your own pace and hopefully won’t be adding to your UFOs!

What to expect on the day

Start 10.30
Welcome and Introductions with coffee/tea

As participants arrive, it gives an opportunity for a show and tell and discuss what you would like to achieve from the day

Lunch break – we generally break around 1pm for lunch

After Lunch    Continuing work on individual projects with assistance where required

Finish 3.30/4pm

What you need to bring


•    Sewing machine and usual patchwork and quilting equipment – rotary cutter, ruler, board, thread, scissors etc

•    Your latest creations for the show and tell, the project you would like to work on or an idea of what you might like to try out

WORKSHOP OUTLINE FOR SATURDAY 24th April

This day long workshop provides participants provides participants with the opportunity to learn more about colour - giving more confidence in choosing colours for quilts and creating more successful quilts. It is a very interactive, fun workshop with no sewing.  There are lots of samples and exercises to see how colour works and it is suitable for all skill levels.

 

What to expect on the day

Start 10.30
Welcome and Introductions with coffee/tea

Before Lunch there is an introduction to Colour and we look at value and relative value

Lunch break

After Lunch   we look at temperature and mood, intensity and colour combinations

Finish 3.30/4pm

What you need to bring


  • A quilt project you have completed
  • Lots of fabric! Small quantities (no more than fat quarters) of lights, mediums and darks in a wide range of colours from your stash, preferably solids, self coloured patterns.
  • Gluestick (UHU or Pritt)

WORKSHOP OUTLINE FOR SATURDAY 8th May

In this day long workshop participants make a denim bag using a raw edge technique. The technique is simple and lends itself particularly to easy bag making! There’s plenty of opportunity to be creative with appliqué and buttons for a more folksy look. Suitable for all skill levels


What to expect on the day

Start 10.30 Welcome and Introductions with coffee/tea

Before Lunch Lap the bags are demonstrated and technique involved explained
Fabrics and design chosen by participants and bags started

Lunch break

After Lunch    Continuing work on bags

Finish 3.30/4pm

What you need

• Sewing machine and usual patchwork and quilting equipment – rotary cutter, ruler, board, thread, scissors etc

• Fabric – worn denim (at least a leg!) and 2 to 3 fat quarters for lining and applique. Exact details would be provided in advance

scrap_quilts

WORKSHOP OUTLINE FOR SATURDAY 22nd May

In this day long workshop participants explore the delights of scrap quilts and hopefully make inroads on their scrap stash. Scrap quilts are the most traditional of quilts and can be as scrappy or planned as you prefer. They serve as memory quilts of previous projects and you can introduce new scraps by swapping with fellow participants.


What to expect on the day

Start 10.30 Welcome and Introductions with coffee/tea

Before Lunch  a variety of scrap quilts and ideas are demonstrated. Time is spent cutting and swapping fabric for scrap quilts.  Decide on project and design – Claire has a good selection of scrap quilt books.

Lunch break

After Lunch    Start on scrap quilt project

Finish 3.30/4pm

What you need

• Sewing machine and usual patchwork and quilting equipment – rotary cutter, ruler, board, thread, scissors etc

• Scrap fabrics from your stash

Cost - £25 (includes a bag of scraps from Claire’s mound of scraps!)
